Sweet Valley High

Remember these girls, Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield?

Growing up I loved Sweet Valley High, and Elizabeth was by far my favorite character.

We even had the game, which I think we played 1,000,000 times.  I always had to be Elizabeth and end up with my hunky boyfriend, Todd Wilkins.  My sister was always Jessica and my Mom always played the part of Enid, Elizabeth's best friend.

The author of Sweet Valley High, Francine Pascal just released a new Sweet Valley High book, titled Sweet Valley Confidential, Ten Years Later....

The author released this quote about the book:

"This is the first time in history that a kids' book has made the leap into adulthood. And it's a very difficult thing because the people who used to read the books are people of importance, they're grown adults, and they have a certain ownership of 'Sweet Valley' because it was their adolescence. With the new book I hoped not to outrage them and I don't think I have. But I think I have surprised them in a lot of ways and I hope I have touched them."  via Perez Hilton

The book features the life of Jessica and Elizabeth and all the other characters at age twenty seven (just like moi!)  I am so excited to see where the characters are today!

I'm Running a Marathon ??!?!

  ...well actually a Marathon relay.

This May myself and four of my friends are running the Pittsburgh Marathon Relay.  I do not like running AT ALL, but I decided it would be the best way to force myself to go to the gym more than once in a blue moon, plus I 've heard the atmosphere marathon day is so fun with entertainment and live bands throughout the course.
This is also an excuse to buy some new work out clothes, as it is important I look my best when running by thousands of people...right?!!!

These Lilly Pulitzer yoga pants and patterned pink tank are perfect for spring workouts.

I love the Paisley pattern also Lilly Pulitzer, the matching paisley band on the yoga pants is soo cute.

I NEED these hot pink shoes, I love how hot pink the bottoms are....I think they will make me run faster.

Nike Running shorts are always a staple...and they come in so many great colors.

I am a HUGE HUGE ruffle fan,  and love this lululemon top, such a cute accent

More lululemon ruffles...soo cute.   Thanks for the tip on the ruffles Steel Magnolia  !!!

Plaid shorts for running...yes please!!!   Lululemon has so many cute designs right now.

This Saucony zip is perfect for when it's a bit chilly out.

Target always has great workout clothes at reasonable prices in a variety of colors as well.

What are your favorite work out clothes??

Weekend Getaway

This past weekend DFH and I spent the weekend at the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort for a little weekend getaway, and to celebrate our Anniversary a bit early.

Nemacolin is a beautiful resort in the middle of the Laurel Highlands in Western, PA.  The resort offers so much for their guests, including a ski mountain, a full spa, gold course, adventure course, dog sledding, tubing, and even wild animal habitats.  DFH and I had gone last year and loved it, we could not wait to go back. Unfortunately the Ski Mountain was already closed for the season, due to the lack of snow, but we still had an amazing trip.

We wined and dinned

Checked out the Aquarium

Enjoyed the Wildlife

Bowled

Took a wine tasting and pairing class with Nemacolin's Sommelier, where we learned a lot of great tidbits.

Toured a Wine Cellar

Enjoyed our complimentary wine

Ate the worst pizza ever.  Note:  Just because you  like salted Anchovies on Caesar salad does not mean you like all anchovies.  This pizza tasted what I imagine canned fish to taste like. I say we get points for being adventurous, but it was an overall fail.

We checked out some local hangouts off the resort ( which have excellent home made rolls)

An overall Fabulous Trip!!!

Bare Feet

Today I saw my first Daffodils of the season.  It reminded me that Spring is really almost here and warmer weather is on the way ( regardless of the fact that we had snow flurries today).    I think I am most excited to break out my spring and summer shoes, and to not have to wear a pair of Uggs or winter shoes for at least six months.   I cannot wait to be able a slip on a pair of flip flops ( after I get a much needed pedicure).
Here are some of my favorite spring and summer shoes.

Rainbows are by far my most staple pair of flip flops, and they have been for years.  I love the way the leather ( after a bit of work) molds to your feet, and they last forever.
Hint:  I have found the best/fastest way to mold my rainbows is by wearing them in the shower a few times, wetting the leather seems to help mold faster.  The only negative is that the leather stains the bottom of your feet for a few days, but its a much faster process to break in the flips.

Jack Rogers:  These sandals come in great colors, I love the metallic silver and gold.  These sandals can dress up or down any outfit, and are look great with a sundress or even a pair of skinny jeans.   I don't know how they do it, but they look great with everything.

Sperrys:  These boat shoes are classic and also come in great colors, I love the gold ( can you tell I am really into metallics right now).  They are perfect casual shoes, and work well with both jeans and shorts, and look super cute even when you are not boating ;).

J. Crew Flops:  J. Crew offers great fabric and leather flops.  The fabric is a little more casual, and they have greta patterns, my favorite is the madras print.  The leather flops come in great colors as well, and are another staple flop, the skinny strap seems to look great on everyone.

Flats:  I love all ballet flats ( anytime of the year), but I love spring and summer patterns and fabrics especially with a sundress or skirt.  J.Crew and Banana Republic always have a great flats collection.

What are your staple summer shoes?
