30th Surprise Party Recap

Shortly before my 30th birthday, DFH threw me a surprise party at UP in Shadyside.  I literally had no clue this was going to happen.  I consider myself to be a pretty nosy observant person so it is hard to surprise me, yet somehow I have been surprised three times in the past 1.5 years ( Getting Engaged and at my surprise bridal shower.)    DFH had told me the night before that we were going to meet one of his co-workers and his wife for drinks and possibly dinner at UP on Saturday night, and I didn't think much of it.  ( I would learn that this was a lie.)

On Saturday, the day of the party I volunteered all day with the Junior League and by the time I got home I was feeling lazy and didn't feel like changing and getting dressed up.  I contemplated just wearing my volunteer t-shirt and puffy vest to get drinks, but luckily DFH was dressed up and I didn't know these co-workers well so I decided to make myself look presentable so that I wasn't known as DFH's sloppy Wife.

We walked up to the bar portion of the restaurant and instead of seeing the co-workers  all of my friends were standing there and shouted, "SURPRISE!!"  A few of my friends said they couldn't tell if I was mad or happy because I had such a blank stare on my face.  I was just so shocked and surprised!!

I don't have too many pictures because I just had such a great time with my friends all night.

Sorry this picture is super grainy, but this was a picture of me with my friend Laura being shocked!

The first out of the three of us to turn the big 3-0.

I was also spoiled with a Birthday gift from DFH that has me super excited/nervous.

DFH and I are going skydiving.  This is something that has always been on my bucket list.  I am so pumped to cross this off the list when we skydive in Maryland this summer...eeek

LGP!

Tonight is a big sports night in Pittsburgh.  The Pittsburgh Penguins play the NY Rangers in game 7 of the Stanley Cup playoffs.  Each team has won three games in this round so whoever wins tonight will move on to the next round of the playoffs.  We will be bringing out all of our good luck charms.  Even Oliver is getting nervous for the game and is holding on tightly to his favorite Pen's towel.

I will likely need to consume an I.C. Light Mango, my favorite local summer  Pittsburgh beer, to calm my nerves.

Let's Go Pens!

Six Months A Wife.

Hi! It has been a while.
I will try not to go AWOL again for that long.  I have so much to updating to do!

Recently, DFH and I celebrated our 6 month wedding anniversary.   I cannot believe we have already been married for six months. I know in the grand scheme of life that is nothing, but it seems like only a few weeks ago I was putting on my wedding dress  and getting ready to walk down the aisle.

DFH and I are always looking for an excuse to celebrate so obviously we took this as a great opportunity to go out for some appetizers and drinks.    We have been saving to buy a house so we have been attempting to limit our spending especially on unnecessary purchases, so it was so nice to treat ourselves.

A new restaurant, Open Bottle Bistro recently opened in our neighborhood with a cute back porch so we tried it out for our mini celebration.   It is finally warm and sunny outside in Pittsburgh,  so it was glorious to be able to sit outside without a heavy coat.  DFH and I love charcuterie plates and this one was delicious!  It had such a variety of tasty meats, pickles, and pate.

The whole weekend was beautiful so we wanted to spend as much time as we could enjoying the outdoors.  We decided to be tourists for the day and take in the views of Mt. Washington from the Grandview Saloon patio.

Cheers to the next 1,0000,000 months as Husband and Wife.

The Easiest ( and Fastest) Chicken Pot Pie Recipe

Happy Hump Day Blog World!!

I apologize for my random posts on Tuesday, one of my old posts from a few weeks ago decided to repost itself, not really sure why, but my birthday was not on Tuesday.

Anyways, I have the easiest and seriously fastest chicken pot pie recipe for you today!

Chicken Pot Pie is a childhood favorite of mine.  At my wedding  our caterer allowed us ( the bride and groom)  to pick any meal in the world for our reception dinner, I ended up choosing surf and turf, but chicken pot pie was a close second.  It really is the ultimate comfort food.

The recipe is a Betty Crocker recipe and only uses a top crust made of Bisquick so it is a lower calorie version of the real deal.   You can honestly complete the prep work in 20 minutes and that includes cooking the chicken.  This is the perfect meal to throw together after work.

Chicken Pot Pie

Ingredients

1 2/3   cups Green Giant® frozen mixed vegetables, thawed
1     cup cut-up cooked chicken
1   can (10 3/4 oz) condensed cream of chicken soup
1   cup Original Bisquick® mix
1/2    cup milk
1       egg

Directions

  • 1 Heat oven to 400°F. In ungreased 9-inch pie plate, stir vegetables, chicken and soup.
  • 2 In medium bowl, stir remaining ingredients until blended. Pour into pie plate.
  • 3 Bake uncovered about 30 minutes or until crust golden brown.

This is my go-to whenever I do not have a dinner plan because we usually have all of the ingredients on hand, and it is so delicious.  It also tastes great left over and is perfect to bring for lunch the following day.

( Sorry for another blurry iPhone picture)

ENJOY!

I am off to upstate NY today for the weekend to visit my grandparents  and go snowboarding.  Upstate NY is the only place in the world where I want it to be cold this weekend so I can still go snowboarding.

Have a great weekend!

...And Today I am 30!

Today I turn 30, or as DFH would say 29 4/4.  I think I like that better.

I am so sad to leave my wild and crazy twenties behind, but if my thirties are anything like my twenties I think they are going to be fabulous and full of new adventures with wonderful people.

I was born on Fat Tuesday so I was pretty much destined to enjoy a good party.

I have already had some amazing 30th birthday celebrations in the past few weeks ( which I need to catch you up on).  But today I am headed to Charleston, SC for a girls weekend to celebrate with some of my favorite people.  I cannot think of a better way to celebrate.

So here is to 100 more super fun amazing years.

...and hopefully no more mullets.

Rewind.

Whoa! Where has the month gone ?!

I thought I would fill you in on what I have been up to in the past month.

In February DFH and I woke up bright and early on a Saturday morning to watch the live Russia v. USA hockey game.  I am not a morning person so I knew I had to give myself a good reason to get out of bed so early on a weekend.  Brie and champagne certainly did the trick.

I enjoyed snuggles with my two loves.

I volunteered at the South Side Soup Contest with the Junior League.  It is one of my favorite volunteer events, where local restaurants compete to make the best soup.  I am bummed I didn't take any pictures.  This was the shirt logo this year.

DFH threw me the best surprise birthday party for my 30th!  It was held  before my actual birthday and I had no idea!!

DFH and I and friends attended the Pittsburgh Beerfest.  It was a great time and so fun sampling so many beers.

At the Beerfest there were also food trucks and a photo booth.  It was a great event.

LES and I went to the Avett Brothers and Old Crow Medicine Show concert and celebrated my last Saturday as a twenty-something.

For my 30th birthday I traveled to Charleston, SC to celebrate with my mom and her friends and one of my best friends.  We had an incredible girls weekend!

A Green Weekend.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Hope you remembered to wear green.

I am loving the clover and my green desk calendar today from A Blissful Nest

St. Patrick's Day is pretty huge in Pittsburgh.  The Saturday before St. Patrick's Day there is always a parade and people pretty much start consuming green beer as soon as they wake up.

On Saturday afternoon we met up with friends, but took it easy this year as we had a busy weekend planned.   I  sported my DIY'd green glitter chucks ( which look like they need to be re-glittered before next year!).

On Sunday we went to the Pens v. Flyers game and enjoyed green beer and great seats.

The Pens lost, but it was amazing to be so close to the action.

Cheese!
( Sorry for the blurry iPhone pictures)

Normally on St. Patrick's Day I like to make the traditional corn beef and cabbage and let it slow cook all day, but I totally forgot to pick some up at the grocery store.  We will have to have a rain check on that meal.

How do you celebrate St. Patrick's Day?
