Roasted Salt and Vinegar Potatoes

I am always on the look out for new and creative side dishes.  I get so tired of the same old same old veggie and rice.  The other month in Real Simple I saw a recipe for salt and vinegar potatoes, that I had to try.  I knew if they tasted anything like the chip, they would be delicious.

1 pound Russet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch thick rounds
2 Tablespoons of cider vinegar
2 Tablespoons of Olive oil
Kosher Salt and Black Pepper ( I used sea salt for extra flavor)

The recipe calls for the potatoes to be grilled, but I roasted them instead.

I First sliced all the potatoes and put them into a foil covered pan

( I used a variety bag of Potatoes that I had which is why a few of the potatoes are purple)

I then drizzled the vinegar, olive oil, salt and pepper over the potatoes and made sure they were all covered.

( I think you could also use malt vinegar instead of cider vinegar if you have that at home)

I then baked the potatoes for 40 minutes on 375 degrees

The potatoes were super easy to make and delicious!  Such a great flavor and the side dish would go with so many entrees.

Enjoy!

Taking On Irene

As most people are fleeing the East Coast to avoid Irene, DFH is headed down to OBX  in North Carolina today to vacation with friends.  Although, they are staying a couple hours away from the coast until the storm blows over, DFH aka Justin Case is more than prepared for the storm.

In typical DFH fashion he is bringing any and all items you may need if you were caught in a disaster.  DFH is still a boyscout at heart, and I couldn't help but share his detailed list of items he is bringing: Just in Case:

1. The Justin Case: A family First Aid Kit

2. Backpack: True Story: DFH would not take a backpack that did not contain a chest strap for maximum protection in case of strong winds

3. Large Tea Lights

4. Two Emergency Blankets

5. Hooded Poncho

6. Swiss Army Knife

7.  Two Flashlights:

8. Hand warmers

9. Emergen-C

10. Batteries

\

11. Energy Bars:   Tiger's Milk is that like Tiger Blood?

12.  Glow Stick:  If Irene doesn't hit, DFH is ready to rave

I think DFH is ready to take on Irene!
In all seriousness I do hope everyone stays safe and takes the necessary precautions to be prepared, and hopefully Irene will go out to sea and not cause any damage.

Bojangles Above the Mason Dixon??

Sometimes I randomly search the "locations" sections of my favorite out of town stores and restaurants websites that we don't have in Pittsburgh to see if there is new location near by ( is that weird?)

The other day I was talking to my friend MEF who I grew up with in NJ, but who now resides in North Carolina about how amazing the Southern Fast Food restaurants are, specifically Buscitville and Bojangles, there is just nothing that compares up North.   I started checking the websites, and found that there was now a Bojangles restaurant in Pennsylvania!!  I was so excited, I began  immediately craving their delicious chicken and biscuits. Although the Bojangles is still 200 miles away, it happens to be on my route home to New Jersey to visit my parents.  Perfect !! I cannot wait to stop by for a delicious "golden basket" and some green beans, they seriously have amazing fixin's if you've never been.

While perusing the site I also found these amazing souvenirs:

Next time I head home It's Bo Time!

Sew Girlie

Last week I blogged about this adorable coupon "clutch" DFH bought me to organize my coupons

It is from a company called Sew Girlie ( how great is the name), which specializes in personalized embroidered gifts.

I loved my coupon organizer so much I started perusing their website to see what else they sold, and I fell in love.   Sew Girlie carries so many great personalized items, I am already thinking about what gifts I need to get for people...or myself!

Sew Girlie has an amazing collection of Koozies, and in my opinion one can never have enough

I don't golf but how cute it that!!

I love these personalized collegiate Koozies, perfect for a tailgate ( Hopefully they will add Elon to their list soon!)

These towels are so detailed, I love the scalloped edges and there are so many fabrics and colors to choose from.

This design your own monogrammed planner and address book is soooo cute.  Again there are so many colors and patterns to choose from.

This would be a great hostess gift.

This monogrammed drink ID band is such a great idea, and you could easily keep it in your purse, perfect  to avoid any water bottle mix ups.

I love this, there are so many great patterns, I would have a hard time choosing both the design and the color.

Sew Girlie has so many other great personalized items on their SITE too, check them out.

Dance Moms Anyone??

This is my first time linking up with Ashley's Carnival Ride and A Complete Waste of Makeup !!

Does anyone watch the reality show Dance Moms on Lifetime.   I am not going to lie I got addicted pretty quickly.  If you have Comcast all of the episodes are On Demand right now.  Normally it is on at 10 pm on Lifetime.

"Set in Pittsburgh’s renowned Abby Lee Dance Company, owned and operated by notoriously demanding and passionate instructor Abby Lee Miller, “Dance Moms” follows children’s early steps on the road to stardom, and their doting mothers who are there for every rehearsal, performance and bow … all under the discerning eye of Miller. Presenting a powerful cast of characters sure to raise eyebrows, the series immerses itself in the highs and lows surrounding competition season to deliver an intriguing and dramatic look at the cast’s frantic pursuit of the ultimate National Dance title. Centered on the devoted Miller, who runs her school with an iron tap shoe as she instructs her young, talented students while also dealing with over-the-top mothers who go to great lengths to help their children’s dreams come true, “Dance Moms” will pose the tough questions many ask about what really goes on behind the scenes in the fast-growing and controversial sport of competitive dance."
 - mylifetime.com

It takes place in Pittsburgh so obviously I am a little more obsessed with the show, and I also grew up dancing ( although I would never say I was a star dancer hahah), but the characters are super addicting, and the Dance Moms are completely ridiculous.  It is quite juicy and it has everything I love in a good reality tv show.

If you love reality TV I would highly recommend it :)

Couponing ...Take Two....and goodies!

Since my last fail of forgetting to bring my coupons out with me,  I have some positive news to report ( although I have no photos to show for my purchases).

In my last shopping trip between my advantage card and coupons I saved $68.00 woo!   This definitely made me want to coupon more, I finally felt the rush those "extreme couponers" must feel, when the price continued to fall after coupons at the register.  Although I still cannot commit to the 40 hrs of couponing that most of the extremers did,  it made me want to continue cutting the coupons and attempting to save more.  I mean saving $68.00 in one trip, think about what I can buy with that money saved.

I have to admit I do need to improve my coupon organization a bit, while we were shopping , I was rummaging through my coupon box, it was a bit unorganized trying to find coupons I knew I had as well as where to put the coupons I wanted to use v. not use.

DFH surprised me with a perfect monogrammed organization solution for couponing

It is flat and easily fits in my purse and also comes with labeling tabs to help keep me organized,

This little coupon clutch will be staying in my purse so that I not only don't forget my coupons, but now I will also label the different tabs so that I also can easily find them while shopping.

SO excited for more couponing with my Coupon "clutch"
