Charleston...Suggestions Wanted

In less than a month I jet set from the currently frozen tundra of Pittsburgh to Charleston, SC to celebrate my 30th birthday ( eeek!) and hopefully add some color to this pale skin.   I have been to Charleston before, but always for specific events ( weddings and graduations), so usually most of the weekend was already planned.  This time I want to fully explore and discover what Charleston has to offer.  I am excited to be a total tourist.   I will be in Charleston for three nights in early March for a girl's weekend.  I want to visit some of the tourist attractions such as the battery, plantations, and maybe do a carriage tour and I also want to eat, eat, eat, drink, and shop!!  I would love some suggestions of your favorite restaurants, shops, and attractions.

As of right now we are thinking about doing the Palmetto Carriage Tour and Boone Hall plantation.  Obviously we will also be putting in some time on King Street for some retail therapy.

For restaurants I want to mostly enjoy some low country southern food that I cannot get up north.  I have heard Husk is a must for drinks and have heard S.N.O.B., High Cotton, and Magnolia's are amazing.  I would love to know your favorites!!

Are there any other must see attractions?

  1. I've never been (and I'm super jealous you're going!), but one of my good friends lives there and she loves High Cotton too! I'm thinking that's a must :)

  3. Eat at dinner Husk and have a drink at their bar. Drink at a roof top bar (Stars, Vendue, Market Pavilion) Shop the city market and King Street. Go tour a plantation (Boone Hall, Magnolia, Drayton Hall). Take a trip out to Sullivans and have a burger at Poe's. Go to Sunday brunch at Hall's Chophouse. The list goes on and on!

  4. I absolutely LOVE Charleston! One of my favorite, if not my most favorite, cities! Poogan's porch for brunch or dinner is my favorite - their biscuits are to die for! Toast for breakfast / brunch - they have bottomless mimosas :) The Gin Joint for drinks is really neat - you choose certain drink characteristics (sweet, minty, etc.) and the bartenders make custom drinks for you! I've never been, but I hear Butcher & Bee has amazing sandwiches! You'll have the best time!!!

  6. So fun, you'll be in my neck of the woods!! SNOB is very good (LOVE their cornbread) but all of those restaurants you named are on the high end! I like Hominy Grill and Poogan's Porch too. If you want some dining on the water, head across the river to Mount Pleasant. Red's Ice House and Shem Creek Bar and Grill are really good and have beautiful views! Make sure you see Rainbow Row down by the battery, the Old Market, and pick up some pralines! :)
