Rainy Day Movies

As I said a few posts back, it hasn't stopped raining in forever, at least here in the Burgh ( although the past few days the sun has made an appearance ( how nice of Mr. Sun).  Instead of being able ride my bike or play outside I have been confined to the indoors.  Although I would 100% rather enjoy the weather it is a good time to make some popcorn and watch a favorite movie.

Here are my favorite rainy day picks ( in no particular order)

1. The Blind Side

2.  Love Actually: Although I especially love this movie during Christmas it is ALWAYS a great watch

3. The Sound of Music: Love the Soundtrack, Love the Movie, Love Austria, Love Julie Andrews

4.  Dirty Dancing: Again  GREAT SOUND TRACK

5.  Troop Beverly Hills:  Beverly Hills, WHAT A THRILL!!!

6.  Remember the Titans

7.  Father of the Bride

8.  Now and Then

9. The Hangover

10.  Clueless:  What girl didn't want to be Cher Horowitz growing up??

What are you fave rainy day flicks??

Also I wanted to wish DFH a Very Happy Birthday!!!

Hope your day is fabulous and cannot wait to celebrate <3

Happy Birthday to You!!

Oh So Pretty Elon

My alma mater Elon University was recently voted #1 Most Beautiful College Campus in the Country! I loved everything about going to school at Elon and miss it so much.   It makes me so happy when this pretty little North Carolina school gets such great recognition!

Here is what the site had to say about Elon:
The wooded grounds of Elon were originally designated as a botanical garden but have since been converted into beautiful campus for a prestigious university. Located in the heart of North Carolina, this campus not only offers an exceptional education but has been the site of several films, including Spike Lee’s He Got Game. Elon has been named the prettiest campus in the country on multiple occasions, including landing at the top spot in rankings by the Princeton Review and the New York Times. We can’t argue, and Elon takes the top spot in our list of the prettiest college campuses. - thebestcolleges.org

Baby I Was Born to Run ?

Last Sunday myself and four of my friends participated in the Pittsburgh Marathon Relay.  Between the five of us we ran 26.2 miles.  Our team name was the Blue Hedgehogs.  Goooo Hogs :)  It was a lot of fun, and the atmosphere was amazing, the course was lined with bands, spectators, cheerleaders, etc.  Having the crowd there definitely made the race more enjoyable, for a "non-runner" like myself.

We started the weekend with a delicious pasta dinner hosted by the Smiths.  ALV and I made a Hedgehog Jello Poke cake with Blue Jello:

Hedgehogs were made with strawberries and Kashi cereal spikes and eyes

The course went throughout Pittsburgh, over several bridges and through different neighborhoods.

About 18,000 people ran either the marathon, 1/2 marathon, or relay

Team Hedgehog after our race!

Cheers!  A well deserved beer to end the race :)

Rain, Rain Go Away

Lately, I feel like I would be better off being a duck.  It has not stopped raining in months.  So far in Pittsburgh it has rained all but two days in May and all but seven days in April and this weather may stay like this until July.  I may start to build my Ark this weekend ( if the world doesn't end ;) )    I also may need to start getting some rain appropriate gear which still makes me look fashionable.

   Mr. Sun???

1. Duck Shoes

I have bean boots, which I believe are knock offs from the 1990's which look like the above, I mean they keep my feet dry, but they are not attractive, unless I am attempting to look like a lumber jack.  Now so many designers have modernized the duck shoes, and there are so many cute options to help your feet stay dry when walking in flood waters.

Tory Burch "ducks"

I also love the colorful L.L. Bean rubber mocs options.

2. Rain boots

Some hot pink Hunter Wellies may be necessary if the flood waters really get high

These Sperry Toile patterned boots would do the trick as well.

3.  Outerwear

Love this Polka Dot Rain jacket sold on Kaboodle

 or this Patagonia Shell

I hope these North Face rain pants are not necessary to trudge through the streets of Pittsburgh when the Mon river floods

This poncho would be necessary if I had a fur baby

4.  Umbrellas

I love these Burberry and Kate Spade umbrellas with the curly umbrella handle

Check out these City Slippers from Swims which are water proof shoes made to protect your heels

Just slide your heels right in, I am definitely investing in these.

If you need me I'll be in my Ark with all my BFF's

A Beautiful Charleston Wedding

A couple weeks ago  DFH and I headed down to Charleston, S.C. for K  & B's Wedding.  I had been to Charleston once before, and DFH had never been.  It is such a gorgeous city, with amazing homes and food.  We had a great time walking around and exploring the city.  The wedding was fabulous as well.

We enjoyed a delicious seafood dinner at Fleet Landing which was right on the water with some friends

On Saturday we ate at a brewery

And shopped at the markets ... and then it was time to get ready for the Wedding

The Wedding was wonderful and both the K and B looked fabulous

The reception was held at the William Aiken House, a house that dates back to the 1800's, once the home of William Aiken, founder of the South Carolina Canal and Railroad Company

I loved this <3...do you recognize the theatre from the movie, The Notebook?

We enjoyed a wonderful cocktail hour, and enjoyed delicious Moscow Mules

  • 1 3/4 oz vodka
  • 1/2 oz lime juice
  • ginger beer
  • lime wedge for garnish
Yumm...cannot wait to make more of these this summer.

We had a great dinner, and then watched the bride and groom cut the cake

  Their First Dance

It was so wonderful to see my favorites from college.

Wonderful Weekend and Congrats to K&B!!!
