Starting my Piggy Bank

I feel like I am always trying to "save" for special trips and gifts.   The problem is if I don't put this money into a separate "Vacation" or "Purse" account,  I feel like it never gets actually saved for the purpose I intend for the money to be used for.

While browsing on Pinterest I came across a great idea for saving money for a special treat.

Basically anytime you have a $5 bill in your possession you add it to your "treat yourself" envelope.

I think this is a great way to start saving for those special purchases, without hurting your pay check.

DFH and I are trying to plan a fun trip for this year, and I think this is a good starting point for saving for it.

Of course the "old" Lauren wants to purchase a cute piggy bank to start the $5.00 Savings Plan

BUT...I know that defeats the purpose so I think I'll just add an extra $5.00 to our jar instead.

Hoping our $5.00 plan adds up!

  1. Such a fun idea! I'm bad about carrying cash, but am trying to be better. Good luck with your savings plan!

  2. Such a great idea! And it would be so easy to do! This would mean I would have to start caring cash, something I feel I never do!

  4. My husband and I were JUST talking about this! We finally opened up another savings account because we had to put the money out of site otherwise we'd spend it on things for the house. : )

    I like this idea though!

  5. That's a pretty nifty way of saving up. Just put some loose change in that every day. You'd be surprised how much you can save in a year with just the loose change from your pockets!
